Everyday words. An older way to say it.

A Chinese saying
for what you mean.

NYOO is a free Chinese saying finder. Write an everyday sentence in English or simplified Chinese; it looks for a related idea among more than 1,000 classical lines, with source links, English explanations, and Mandarin readings.

A cultural echo, not a word-for-word translation. Some sentences will not have a clear match.

Four sentences. Four classical echoes.

These public examples are checked against the current matching rules. The Chinese line is an existing quotation; the modern sentence is only a way to find it.

You might say

“This is difficult, but I still want to keep going.”

路漫漫其修远兮,吾将上下而求索。

The road ahead is long; I will keep searching high and low.

The shared idea is continuing the search despite a difficult road—not a promise that effort always succeeds.

You might say

“Time passes so quickly.”

逝者如斯夫,不舍昼夜。

What passes is like this, never ceasing through day and night.

The image of an unceasing current gives the passing of time a shape you can picture.

You might say

“I want to learn and think for myself.”

学而不思则罔,思而不学则殆。

Learning without reflection leads nowhere; reflection without learning becomes precarious.

The line pairs learning with reflection: taking in knowledge and thinking it through belong together.

How the Chinese saying finder works

  1. Write one ordinary sentence in English or simplified Chinese.
  2. The browser compares keyword and theme cues with the classical-line collection.
  3. Read the Chinese quotation, its English sense, and why the image may fit. Follow the source link or listen to the Mandarin reading.

You can share the resulting classical line or save a quotation card. The share link contains a result identifier, not your original sentence.

Questions before you try it

Is this an English-to-classical-Chinese translator?

No. NYOO retrieves an existing line with a related theme. It does not translate each word, compose a new ancient-style sentence, or claim that an author was describing your situation.

Does it use a live AI model?

No. The public tool uses browser-based keyword and theme matching, not an online generative model. The Mandarin readings are prerecorded Leo Voice audio. Matching can miss context, irony, or unfamiliar expressions.

Are my words sent to a server?

Your sentence is processed in your browser and is not included in our analytics events. Loading pages and audio still makes network requests; see our privacy policy for website analytics and hosting details.

What if the line does not fit?

Try a more specific everyday sentence, or browse the topic guides. There is no single correct ancient quotation for every thought. An unclear result is a limitation of the matching rules, not a judgment about you.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

The current public beta is free and requires no account. It is for language discovery and cultural enjoyment—not fortune-telling, therapy, or professional advice.
