Wulingyuan & Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie · Hunan · Central China

#6

NYOO starter rank
not an official ranking

Wulingyuan is known for a dense landscape of sandstone pillars, ravines, streams, pools and waterfalls around the Zhangjiajie area.

Why it matters

UNESCO records more than 3,000 narrow sandstone pillars and peaks, many over 200 metres high, within a landscape rich in caves and natural water features.

How to approach the visit

Plan by route and elevation rather than trying to “see Zhangjiajie” as one stop. Lifts, buses, walking routes and viewpoints create very different days.

Before spending money

Check park zoning, ticket validity, internal transport, lift maintenance, trail closures and visibility. Wet stone and long queues can alter a route.
